I made this thinking it would look so cute in a little girl's room. Making a few of these for a craft fair. Some of you asked me for a pattern when I blogged about it here. So here you go.

For the triangles

Ch4

1 dc in first ch [2dc]

Ch2, Turn

dc in same st, 2 dc in next st

Ch 2 turn, 2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in next the 2 stitches, 2 dc in the last st.

Till row 5 you will increase like this by doing a 2dc in the stitches on the extreme left and extreme right and 1 dc each in the middle stitches. After that I increased only every alternate row.

(Every other row - 1 dc in every stitch)

For the flowers

Ch4, sl st to first chain to form a ring.

Ch2(counts as first dc),12 more dc into ring [13 dc]

(Ch1 , 3 tr, 1 sc) into one stitch, 1 sc into the next stitch

*sl st into next stitch, (ch1, 3 tr, 1 sc) in the stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch*

Continue *-* to finish the round [6 petals]

Sl st to the first ch1.

I made 10 triangles and 10 flowers . Attach each flower to the triangles.

Granny Triangles - my way

Many of you asked me how to make the triangles for the bunting in my previous post. Some of you asked if there is a pattern for it. There might be a pattern for it in many places, as it is a very basic pattern. Same as in a granny square, but you work three sides instead of four.
Here is how I make them.

Ch4, sl st to first chain to form a ring

First round

Ch2(Counts as first dc. I always ch2 for dc instead of ch3 because I find it balances the height better.)
2 dc, ch2,3dc,ch2,3dc,ch2, join to top of first ch2

Second round

sl st in the next 2 dc (I sl st in the back of the chain)
sl st into ch2 space.
Ch2,2dc,ch2,3dc.
*3dc,ch2,3dc in the next space*
Repeat *-* once more, sl st to top of first ch2

Third round

sl st in the next 2 dc
sl st into ch2 space.
Ch2,2dc,ch2,3dc.
*3dc in next ch2 space
3dc,ch2,3dc in the next space*
Repeat *-* to finish the round and sl st to top of first ch2.

Repeat third round till the triangle is as big as you want.

I have added small metal bells below each triangle. So now they look pretty and sound very good too!!

Rainbow Bunting

Hellooooooo!!! A quick post to share something that I made recently. Its a bunting in rainbow colours :). I did not know that granny triangles would give you so much pleasure!! I loved making these and love them every time I look at them.

Also made some triangles and flowers for a very girly bunting.

New Year

Wishing you all a very very happy new year!! I visited my hometown for the Christmas holidays. It was just the break I needed. This time we decided to take a different route. Took more time but it was much more beautiful.

After reaching back I have started working on some fun crochet.

I can write a pattern for any of these if you want. Made a few pouches too.

For the first time we have kept a tree in our home. Little one was super excited. From next year I will make ornaments to decorate it. But this year had to use store bought ones.

Last week I got a bigggg surprise!!I got the goodies Barbara(made in k-town) sent me. Barbara has a lovely blog and hosts amazing theme based link-parties. It is my first giveaway win and I love everything that she has sent me. Cute bracelet, handmade bookmark, pendants, buttons, beads and a sweet little note. Thank you so much Barbara!! I showed it to all my friends, and told them that my friend in Germany sent it to me.:).

Nicole of nicole and the bee has passed on an award to me.

Thank you so much Nicole!!It was just the push I needed to stop ignoring my blog. Nicole has a lovely,cheerful blog.

Something Great!!

I was away from blogland for a while because, I took part in an arts and crafts exhibition!! And sold most of my stuff!! And there was a laptop-stopped-working-incident also!! Altogether I neglected my blog for a while. But I am back and am happy to be!!

I am selling something for the first time. And what made me happier was the good response I got, the look on people's faces :). So encouraging. Me happy happy!!!. There were around 200 stalls, exhibiting different type of arts and crafts.

Singapore Part 2

Last weekend was great fun!! We went to Sentosa and Universal Studios and the little one had so much fun. Felt so happy to see him so happy. Tomorrow we will leave Singapore with lots of good memories.

Singapore Part 1

We are in Singapore!!! Husband is on an official trip and me and little one have come to enjoy!! :).. Its a great city and we will be here for another week. We visited Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park and Night Safari. These places are great for adults and kids. You get to go near the animals and birds and also read a lot of fun and educational facts about them. There are lots of shows in which the animals and birds participate. The little one was very excited and so were we. My camera went crazy and let me share a few pictures with you.

What I loved the most about these places is that they are doing so much to build awareness about preserving our rain forests and saving endangered species.

We also visited some shopping centres. I bought some cute stuff for really cheap prices. But nothing craft related yet!!

Striped baby blanket Ta-Dah!!!

Striped baby blanket is ready and here it is smiling at you!!

All these colourful stripes give me so much joy!! I enjoyed crocheting each and every row of this. For some of you who asked, here are some details. I have just done rows of double crochet. For the border, a round of dc(followed the idea found here and here ) in green, then a round of dc in salmon and finished with a round of sc in red.

Had started to give a picot edging, but the whole thing was curling up like crazy, so ended up with this simple border.

I like this border too.

Blanket WIPs

Thank you so much for the sweet comments you leave for me and the encouragement and inspiration I am getting from this little blogland of ours!!

Today I thought, I will post about my blanket WIPs. For that extra little push to complete them and also for the sheer pleasure of photographing them!!

I have started a new stripy baby blankie!! No I am not expecting.. While going to my parents home this time I forgot to take some colours I needed for my Granny Square Afghan. So started making this baby blanket with the colours I had. Otherwise nine hours in the car without my crochet is boooring!! I will decide what to do with it later. Right now just enjoying making it!!

Next are these cheerful little squares. I have decided to turn these into another baby blanket.

Last but not the least my Granny Square Blanket!! Can you notice some changes in there? Yeah!! I have included some large squares in between and I lovvve the effect!!

I kept this on our doorstep for Diwali ( Festival of Lights, celebrated in India).

Birthday Gifts And Some Fabric Shopping

It was my Birthday last Friday!!Got some nice gifts and felt special. But let me show you what I gifted myself. Two books I have been dreaming to buy since a long time. Yippee!!

Also found some super cute fabric yesterday in an exhibition. Got them for reasonable rates as they are export rejects. These are all bed sheets, except the cupcakes print which is a pillowcase. The sheets are quite big so have enough in each print. I can't wait to use these for my sewing projects.

I am crocheting some bling stuff today. Will post about within the next couple of days. Have a nice day!!

Little housie!!!

No I was not on holiday!!!I was in the bed most of the time the past few days. Only times I got out was to go to the hospital or to the loo. I was hit by a very bad stomach infection and it was really baaad!!!!. After two courses of antibiotics and a few visits to the hospital, I feel better now. But I do not feel like knitting, crocheting or sewing after that. Why????????? I have gone through many of your blogs , to get that feeling back, and seeing so many lovely stuff in blogland is definitely helping. Okay, enough of my blabber.
Let me share with you pictures of a little sewing project I did a weekend, before all of this started.

I am not very good with embroidery. I have never done any serious embroidery. My inexperience can be seen here. But I love this little housie. Fully handmade by me. :) .. I was so inspired by a crocheted little house Lucy showed in her blog here

On the side I have tried to put a watering jug and a plant.

In the backside is a washing line with a granny blankie and stripy pajamas!!!Not so neat, I know. But not bad for a beginner, right??

Progress Pictures

I just thought I will peep in and show you some progress pictures of my granny throw and blankie!!
Lets see the blanket first!!

I know I went a bit overboard with taking pictures of these candy squares!!
Before I show you pictures of the throw, a small update!! After making so many squares, I realized that the light brown colour I was using in some squares was some other brand, which was not at all soft. So decided to re-do the squares that has that colour. Progress so far.

A lot of brown in there right??Need to balance it with some bright squares like the one below.

I plan to keep both these projects aside and make something for instant gratification this weekend. Will show you next week!!

Remember, I had mentioned in an earlier post that I have joined One a Day@Gingerbread Girl to finish my Granny throw.

Well, I started it last Sunday. Have made 9 squares so far.

I am also weaving in ends of the granny squares I had already made before joining this CAL. That is also being done one a day. Will post progress pictures of the another afghan I am working on in my next post.

Yarn scrap recycling

I have so much yarn scraps, from all the afghans that I am working on. And don't you feel they are too good to be thrown away. This is what I came up with this afternoon. You just need a bottle, yarn scraps and glue. Just stick them on as you wish. I want to make lots of these.

A new afghan WIP and an Award

Hellloooo!!! Life is very busy these days. I am not getting enough time for myself. But I did manage to squeeze in time to make a few grannies. These are being made as part of an ongoing stash busting attempt. I really liked this and this and thought, why not. I have also joined One a Day@ Gingerbread Girl to finish my granny throw. Started working on that, but more about it later.

Made a jacket for a tin. Something to keep my straight needles.

Granny Goes Shopping

I will not call this a pattern. I am just explaining how I made this bag, step by step.

Step 1 (For the base)

Chain 66

Sc in second chain from hook. 1 sc in each ch till the end.

* Ch1, Turn and sc in all sc of prev row*

Repeat this for 50 more rows

I made this holding acrylic yarn together with a same colored cotton thread. It made the base stronger. (Not my idea, got it from a friend)

Step 2 (For the body)

Make 30 granny squares. (I have made a basic granny square, with just a ch1 space between the corner 3 dc’s. No space anywhere else)

Join 9 granny squares as 3x3, 3 rows 3 columns. I joined these using sc by holding right sides together. This will make the front side. Repeat this to make a back side.

For the sides, join 6 granny squares as 3x2(3 rows, 2 columns). Again sc holding right sides together. Repeat this to make one more side.

To join the sides to the front and back, I used sc holding wrong sides together, so that the edges stand out.

Step 3

Now you can attach the base rectangle to this. sc throughout holding wrong sides together. Make one line of sc along the top of the bag to make the top edges look neater.

Step 4

For the handles, make chains as long as you want the handles to be.

sc in second chain from hook, sc in each ch till end.

Now you can make rows of sc’s with as many colors as you want.

For the edging on the straps

Sl st in first sc, ch3, sl st in same ch, *skip 2, Sl st in next sc, ch3, sl st in same sc *

Repeat from * to * till the end.

Make 2 handles and attach to the bag.

Step 5

Make two long strings of chains (You can make this by holding two strands of yarn together to make it thicker)

Pass this through the bag as in the image below (it is one of the side panels that you see in the image).

Attach a pom-pom to each end of both strings. You can find lots of video tutorials to make pom-poms. These strings will help you to tighten the opening if necessary (as in the first and second images). Otherwise you can leave it loosely tied as an embellishment. And your bag is ready to go shopping!!

It is my first time writing crochet instructions. I am so used to following them blindly. So if there are flaws, I apologize. And I would love to hear your suggestions. Have a nice day!!

Wiggly Crochet

I got to try one more new technique as part of a CAL in Ravelry. The aim is to try lots of new techniques that we always wanted to try. Last time we tried Hairpin Crochet. This time it was Wiggly Crochet. Me being the laziest one was among the last to finish it and I have made only one round of wiggly crochet (Lazzzy)!! My justification is I need more space at the center of the coaster!! :)

Very warm welcome to all the new followers and a bigggg thank you to all of you who have taken time to leave comments here. I was not able to visit many blogs the past two weeks. Now need to check out everything new happening around.

I ordered 18 balls of the Stylecraft yarn last month. I ordered it in the end of July. I told you I was down health-wise and needed something to cheer me up. I had almost given up hope and thought it's lost when I did not receive the parcel even after 25 days. The people from whom I ordered it online(Deramores) were extremely good and supportive. They even offered to send me a replacement package. But today morning I got it!!!And I am so so happy!!!!

I also bought some pure wool in lovely shades recently. I want to try felting. I know I really went overboard with all the buying. I couldn't help it. I know you all will understand. Although nobody at home does.

This is a bag I made, to use up some of the stash I already have to feel less guilty about all the purchases. It can take the shape of a big shopping bag, a cuter smaller bag, or a square yarn basket. I will share instructions on how to make it, later. And any suggestions for a name for the bag please.

Buttons!!!

I had lost my will to do anything at all last week. Was hit by the flu making rounds here. Feel a lot better now. Attended a Ravelry meet this weekend and that was so refreshing. I am all ready to knit,crochet and sew.
I thought I will show you my button stash today. Not much, but makes me happy.

The ones below, I bought yesterday evening. I so used to drool over these flower buttons that I saw in many blogs. Never thought I will find them here. I had to really control myself from jumping and screaming when I saw these in the shop.

Dont you love the pencil stub buttons and the rainbow buttons in the picture below. Got them in a swap with a friend in Ravelry. And those cute fruit buttons. They really lift my mood. Do you think I am crazy?

Thank you so much to each and every one of you who gave me valuable suggestions in my last post. So the majority of the people gave a thumbs up for a common turquoise border.

My confusion was that usually the granny square works I have seen follow a colour scheme which is exactly the opposite of what I am trying to do. That is vibrant colours with a subtle border. My border is more vibrant than all the colours inside. But I am loving it more and more now. Have made 24. I am planning to make 80 or maybe 100. Lets see!!

Granny Throw

When I started making these squares, the idea was to make a blanket!!But now I have decided it will be a throw. I have to say I am not very excited with the way its shaping up. The colours I am using are purple, pale pink, green, light brown, dark brown and orange. Earthy colours basically.

I wanted to give a common border to all. Today morning I tried this. The colours are more true in the second picture. How does this look. I would love to hear your suggestions.

Hairpin Crochet

I learned something new!!Hairpin crochet!! I did this as part of a CAL in Ravelry!! When I joined the CAL I had not even heard about this technique.

But then its always fun to learn new things right? Made these flowers using this tutorial!! If you are new to hairpin crochet like me, I think these are the flowers you should start with. After 3 failed attempts I finally nailed it ( I think I did). And I couldn't stop with just one. I had U hooks of two sizes. Made one flower with each.They can be used as a brooch, on bags, as clips, on photo frames, endless options..

WIP Wednesday

This is a WIP that is going smoothly so far ( just had to frog about 15 rows once, because I felt I should switch to bigger needles). But that is no big deal to me. I am so used to frogging. :). After that it has been smooth sailing till now. For how long?? I don't know.

These are gifts for a friend, Rupi (lazylibran in Ravelry). I met her through Ravelry, but never in person. She is leaving this place and there was a see-off meeting arranged for her, but I could not attend that. Hope to meet you in person sometime Rupi and hope we can continue keeping in touch through Ravelry!!

I made these coasters for her. Came to know she loves blue. I have made two coasters in each colour combination and sewn them together for thickness.

Enchanting

I had started this as a stash busting project. This multicolored yarn (Sirdar Click) was lying in my stash since a long time. Started making a drop stitch scarf with it, but it looked really bad in the pattern.

Tried 2 or 3 other patterns as well. But was not very happy with the look. Then found Enchanting. It looked fine but I did not have enough yarn to complete it. By this time my Mother fell ill and I did not have time to look for other patterns, and I really needed mindless knitting to reduce the stress. So picked some merino wool from my stash in a hurry and took it home with me.

I am happy with the final product. The drape is lovely.

And I really love the bobbles in the edging. Found this easy and wonderful tutorial to make bobbles.

Garden Cushion

Last week I had to go to my parents' place. My mother is not doing well, again. In times like these I feel so so so helpless. I just want to do something that will make things better for them. But we have been asked to wait patiently, as the recovery will be very slow. I feel so tired at times.

Let me share with you something I made before I left.

Now I am back at my place for a short break and I thought I will take pictures of my garden cushion and share it with you. Feeling a bit better after this.

I had this idea in my mind since a long time. The butterfly pattern is from here and the leaf pattern is from here. For the flower I read a few patterns and came up with my own version. I really wanted a snail and couldn't find a pattern, so made it myself.

I will be back at the hospital next week. Hope things get better soon. Please pray that my mother recovers fast. Notice the contrast in this post? I am blogging about a very depressing thing and a very cheerful pillow at the same time. Why? I don't know.

I love colours! Those who read my posts must have guessed that by now:)
I love it when it rains. It really lifts my mood. Also the weather when it is about to rain, slight winds and dark clouds, love it.
I believe in “Live and Let Live”.
I panic over silly things. But when faced with some really big issues in life, I have been very strong. But that has not stopped me from panicking over silly things.
I was a pretty choosy eater when I was a kid. But once I started living away from home, I started yearning for anything home cooked. Now my son is doing to me what I did to my mother. Is he and his grandmother plotting against me secretly?? :)
Have never grown nails in my hands. I got very uncomfortable whenever I have tried to. I love pedicures though.
I love gardening. My dream is to live in a house with ample land around where I can grow flowers, vegetables and fruits.
I’ve never had pets.
I am a vegetarian.

Drop Stitch Scarf

Remember I had mentioned a drop stitch scarf I am making, in my previous post. I made it with Vardhaman variegated yarn(acrylic). Cast on 36 stitches for a wider scarf.

This knits up fast. It's a very flexible pattern. I feel it looks great with any yarn. And it can be easily memorized. Perfect for TV knitting.

I learnt how to block acrylic by killing it!!Yeah, I can kill now!!!! The drape of the scarf definitely improved after blocking.

Yarn Shopping

Back home again. Last week, before leaving to my parents' place, I went to a craft shopping trip with friends found through Ravelry. I was meeting all of them for the first time. Instantly felt at home in the group and it was so much fun shopping with them. Here is my loot.

All the large skeins are very soft acrylic. And the smaller ones are 'bling threads' (don't know what they are called). I saw a granny stripe boutique bag a friend made using this thread and immediately decided I need to make those. I wanted to make this bag since a long time. After seeing the bling version, I couldn't wait any longer. I am done with my bag, except the lining which I plan to finish today. Have made some changes in the measurements mentioned in the original pattern. Will give the details in my next post, I promise.

I also bought a yarn winder which has made life so much easier. Yesterday the whole day I was making yarn cakes :).

I have almost finished making a drop stitch scarf, but more about that later.

Yesterday while sitting with nothing much to do, it occurred to me that I had not knit something in a long time. Searched through patterns in Ravelry and found this. Calorimetry is so easy to make( well I had some confusions and a friend in Ravelry helped me). Was doing short rows for the first time.

I did not realize it will result in holes and panicked a bit in between. But then found out it's supposed to be like that. Apparently, there is also a method to avoid holes while doing short rows. A friend has promised to teach me that.

This can be adjusted to fit his head and mine as well. But doubt it if I will get to use it.

Ripples Cushion

Helllooooooo!! I have finished my third cushion.. As you can see it is made of colourful ripples.

Iam so happy just looking at them!!Makes our sofa so cheerful and welcoming!!

The one in the back is my next cushion. It will be cushion #3 because cushion #1 ( with the frills removed ) has been claimed by husband. He has kept it in our car.

I told you about a CAL/KAL I have joined to make amigurumis or toys. And you know what, I have finished making it, though we are supposed to start making only by the end of this month. Yeah!!I did not pay much attention to the dates. Iam very absent minded these days ( or always? ).

So I think I will make one more, choose a different pattern. This one, a very colourful caterpillar, has been snatched away by my little one.

I had to beg him to let me take pictures. Can you suggest a name for this cute guy?

These are perfect for instant gratification. They can be made so fast and the result is great!!
Now let me go and choose another pattern ( there are so many cute patterns out there ).

Inga bag

My Inga bag is almost done. It needs to be lined. And those who know me must have already guessed that it has been postponed indefinitely.

Pattern here. This was made as a part of a Bag CAL/KAL in Ravelry's South Asian Crafters Group.

I have joined another CAL/KAL in the same group to make amigurumis. It will be my first attempt. Wish me luck!!

Granny Cushion

Yaaay!! Finally after some time I have managed to finish something. Remember my cute little grannies from last post? They have been transformed into this. It involved something that I keep postponing always, that is sewing. But yesterday I just sat and finished it.

My sewing machine is on strike. So I have hand sewn the cushion backing. Not bad right?

A glimpse of what I am working on right now, apart from the bag I blogged about earlier. This is, no prize for guessing, cushion # 3. I ripped apart the ripples I was working on before. I was not happy with the way it was turning out. This one, I like.

A very big thank you to all who have passed prayers and wishes for my mother's health. She looks much better now. And Iam still at home with her. But now since the stress is less I get more time for crocheting. Have been making these cute little grannies.

They will be turned into another cushion!! Yes, I can't get over the "cushion craziness"

Back after a long time!!

I have been away from blogging for a while. Had to be with my mother who was not doing very well. But now she is showing signs of improvement! Praying to god she gets well soon. In between we have shifted to India, so I was busy with that too.I don't think I will be active here for some more time, but will take a peek whenever I can. Because this place is one of my main sources of inspiration.

I was crocheting in between all this to remain sane. First is this bag. Wanted to make Inga's Haekelbeutel since a long time. Making it as a part of a bag KAL/CAL in the South Asian Crafters Group in Ravelry. Iam done with the squares. Now need to find fabric for the lining and sew them up.

I was also working on a cushion. Ripples in rainbow colours. Iam done with the crochet part. Sewing part is left.

Flower Tray Mat

Finally, I decided I will just join my flowers to make a tray mat sort of thing. There are 20 flowers in total.

When joined there was two much space in between for a cushion (which I had planned to turn them into originally)

But all is well that ends well right? It can adorn my side table or my tea tray. Lets see!! Wishing you all a happy weekend!!

Spidey Afghan

Presenting a spidey blankie made for my little superhero. Wanted to make one since a long long time. I planned to finish it by his birthday last december. But then could only finish it in the new year. But he is very excited to see it finally completed. The yarn used has small multicolored bits throughout, which looks great.

He sits on it while watching cartoons, uses it as a blanket and he has a long list of other ways of using it as well. Apparently the more he uses it the more power he gets. Yeah!! Me happy to see it so well received.

I have finished working on my crocheted cushion. More about it later.

Yesterday was a day filled with bargain shopping. First we went to our local yarn store(which is a bookstore that also sells craft related items). There they had Sublime Merino yarn for throwaway prices. I couldnt resist and this is what I ended up with. I bought 33 balls of yarn. Its all in very good condition. The balls just look a bit messy, but not at all tangled.

I felt a bit guilty after this. But did I stop with this? No. Next stop was Ikea. We went there because my brother wanted to look for something. But he did not buy anything and this is what I ended up with. I got these from the As Is section for less than half the price and again I couldn't resist. I was a very bad girl, I know. But once in a while is Ok I guess. Don't you agree?

A very old project and a new one

First of all let me show you something I made almost 20 years back. Found this purse when I visited home this time. Is this cross stitch? Looks like it. Me and a friend at that time had made one each. She made hers
in red and green I think. Had totally forgotten about this. Was a good feeling seeing it after so long. There
was a plastic frame just like a cross stitch cloth with little squares all throughout. And we did this work with thread. My father had given it to a tailor to attach a lining and zipper to it.

Next is what Iam currently working on. Its a cabled clutch. Iam trying to knit cables for the first time and its fun so far.

Last year, 2010, was one of the worst years in my life. So many traumatic events happened that broke me and crushed me. That is the reason why I went into hiding for a while. I used to sign into blogger but could not post anything. I used to read your blogs but was not able to comment. I just did not feel like doing anything. Thanks to all who messaged me and showed concern. I got your messages and was really touched but I was too upset to react. I want to move on somehow. Hope I will get the strength.

But now I thought although its a bit late, I will come up with a post that has all my knitting and crochet work done last year. Its special because I started to knit and crochet in November 2009. So I completed one year last November.

Iam feeling extremely extremely extremely low these days. Thats why the long absence from here. Not that things were smooth earlier, but we were facing them. But my mother, one of the most important persons in my life, is not doing very well healthwise. Iam very upset because of that. We had a long episode in the hospital, while I was in India, which includes a surgery. Now she is at home and I might go back to be with her for some more time. The recovery is expected to progress very slowly. Might take a year or so. So we are praying and trying to be strong and supportive.

I had lost my will to do anything, let alone crafty. But now I have decided I need to do these things to keep myself from going insane. Had kept a pair of shoeboxes earlier and had thought I will do something with them. So this is what I made from one of them today.

And I really felt better after finishing it. The fabric is from an old kaftan of mine.

Modern Vintage Potholders

A group in Ravelry, SAARC, which I am a member of, decided to do a CAL/KAL to celebrate the Indian Independence Day on the 15th of August. We were supposed to start on that day and make something with cotton. I started 2 days later and decided to make potholders. These are what I made.

I have not attached 2 together since I felt it will become too thick. Planning to make more potholders since I found so many lovely patterns. Can’t stop now. Addictions...

My Lucy Bag

My cousin in Canada bought me some acrylic yarn (She thought thats the only type available) from a dollar store there when she heard about my new hobby. When I showed her my work and told her about the variety of yarn available, she promised me that she would go to some real yarn shop and send me some good yarn when she reaches back. Isn't she sweet?? There were 10 to 12 balls in total. I removed just 3 or 4 from them and the rest looked like a very bright and colourful lot. So I decided I will try to make the Lucy bag(wanted to make one since a long long time). Iam almost done with it. And it looks really pretty if I may say so. Can't help it. I lovvve it!!

Now I need to find a pair of nice handles. Don't have yarn left to make them, so will buy readymade handles. The lining job is also left. I need to reach back in Abu Dhabi to do that since my sewing machine is there.

Purse and Beads

Tried my hand on adding beads to crochet!! And turns out its quite easy!! And the result looks pretty!! I made this purse for my MIL. Hope she likes it.

There is a felt patch with her initials on. Did that to hide a mistake but it actually turned out well!! Wanted to line it with satin, but it was so difficult and I did not have much time to spend on it (lots of packing to do). This fabric works just fine I think. The two lines of bead on either side is to hide some blue mark on the fabric(uneven dyeing job).

Knitted Pouch

I made this a few weeks back. But the lining job was pending. Finally done with it. Again have added a zipper!!Yeah, the confidence is growing. I used a dishcloth pattern to make this. Knitted two and joined them. It took me so long to line it because I was confused how to do it. Saw Nima's clutch and decided that is how Iam going to do it. First attached the zipper to the lining and then the whole thing to the pouch.

Have a secret to share. The ruffled part in the bottom was by accident. Maybe because of casting on loosely. I could have stretched it while seaming the edges. But I felt it looks better this way. So left it like that.

Warning!!!Picture heavy post.

My first knitted lace shawl!!!And I lovvvveee it!!!Made this as a part of a KAL in Ravelry. So glad I did. I got this yarn as an RAK in Ravelry. Its Rowan Felted Tweed. I never thought it would look so good. It has a very nice drape to it and is very light.

I started making this on June 13th. Had to frog the initial 2 to 3 leaves so many times. But after that it was smooth sailing till I started the straight section. There was a bit of confusion as to how many leaves I needed to make to acquire the width I wanted for the shawl. At this time had to frog 2 to 3 leaves again to go back and do a few more increases. But then all went well after that. Got a bit bored with the straight section though. Was going really slow at that time. Once decreasing started it took me hardly two days. Have made 11 leaves in the increasing, 11 in the straight and 11 in the decreasing section

I have never blocked wool. But a friend in Ravelry helped me and told its the easiest to block. And since I did not know it would stay exactly as we block it, I ended up with a few points on the top part. hehehe. Spraying some water and reblocking solved the problem. Me happpppy and can't wait for winter to come.

We have a wonderful knitting group in the UAE. Its called U-Knitted Amiras. ('Amira' means Princess in Arabic). So I have been trying to attend the Dubai and Abu Dhabi meetings whenever I can. But never took a camera with me. Yeah!!lazy me. But will try to borrow pictures from other members and post later. So there was this World Wide Knit in Public Day event in Dubai (last month) that I attended and I won yarn in a lucky draw. Yippeeee!!!The yarn is Dubai Knits(hand dyed yarn by a member of Amiras, Jocelyn). She has an amazing collection of yarn in gorgeous colours!!! I wanted to blog about this when I had the yarn with me, so that I could post pictures. Here it is!!

Zippered Pouch

Have I become addicted to sewing? Think so. Okay presenting my first ever sewing project that has a zipper. I was scared of it. But now I know its not that scary.

It started like this. I have made a knitted pouch and tried to add a lining with a zipper to it yesterday. But half way through I realise that the zipper is smaller in size. So I decided to make this pouch. I have used the same fabric for the lining.

I love it and will be making more of these.

Luggage Tags

Nordstrom Bag

I made this bag as a gift for an Aunt. I wanted to try this pattern since a looong time. So when I decided to make a gift for my Aunt who loves bags, I thought why not. I have made this as an evening bag. The yarn I used has a lovely sheen to it.

Since there are no readymade bag handles available here, I decided to make a handle out of beads. I love how it has turned out. Made a long chain first and then twisted it by holding 5 or 6 layers together. Voila!!

Finished the crocheting part almost a month back. Was too lazy or maybe scared to do the lining job. Finally done with it. Have lined it with black satin because it goes with the evening bag look.

Me happy. Hope she will love it too.

Little one's school closes in July for summer holidays. We are going to India to spend the holidays with his maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents and great grand parents. Only me and Pranav are going now. DH might join us later. I have started making small gifts to take with us. These bookmarks were made for the purpose.

And a small one for Pranav made upon special request. He wanted one to keep in his story books. Iam sure he doesn't know why they are kept. But thats fine.

Fabric Tray

Did some sewing..Yessssss...This is a very easy thing to make..But still I struggled ( I still struggle to sew straight lines )..And to make matters worse my sewing machine stopped co- operating in between...So off we went to a mechanic(is that the right word ??)I dont know..But you know what I mean..Got it back fast..Its working pretty well now..I finished making the tray..The tutorial I followed is very easy and clear..

Its a big hit at home as usual..These people encourage me so much..My boys!! Here it is..Put to use as soon as I made it..Its half empty while I took pics..But DH is using it now to keep his phone and car keys too..

Needle Book

As I have said, I started to knit and crochet just last year, end of last year to be more precise. But the last couple of months or maybe more than that, I have totally ignored knitting and was only into crochet and sewing. The other day I felt I also need to keep improving on the knitting front. I loveee strawberries and since I couldn't find any pattern to knit a strawberry, I thought I will design something. Yes I did that and it came out kind of cute too. I made a pattern in Microsoft Excel. Made a few changes while knitting, frogged a few rows about 3 or 4 times and finally made this. I had not decided what to do with it while knitting. I had seen a needle book a long time back and really thought the idea was cute. So I converted my knit strawberry to a needle book. Now I hope I will not keep loosing needles as I always do.

Had bought a few pages of felt in various bright colours a few days back. They were also used.

There is a garter stitch page for my large needles and tapestry needles(which I can't find now)
Another interesting thing is when I was knitting the strawberry I was trying to carry the various colours of thread through the back of the pattern. Later a knitting friend, whom I met recently, told me I can find online video tutorials to do it in an easier way. Now I know what I did is called the Stranding method and that there is an even better way to do it. Found tips to hold the colours more efficiently and to avoid doing the stranding too tightly, which I did. Okay, so next time I won't have so much trouble and confusion while knitting with so many different colours at the same time. Please go here to learn more.

Grocery Bag Holder

What do I write about this?It has been made with a very soft acrylic yarn which is locally available. Got stalled midway because I fell short of yarn and had to wait for the shop guy to get it from somewhere else. What is the birdie decoration doing with it? I just felt they both look good together.

As usual i did not read the pattern properly. Usually I realise my mistake after a few rounds. This time I broke all my previous records and realised it after making the whole thing and taking pictures.hehehe. But it looks fine. So me not worried at all. Ok if you are still wondering what the mistake is, according to the pattern the FPDtr spans through 2 rows. But in my case just 1. Well what difference does it make. All is well that ends well isn't it?

Nima's Hat Pincushion

Nima (Made to treasure) is hosting a hat pincushion pattern giveaway. Anyone can take the pattern from her ( details here ). She wants us to make it and embellish it according to our taste. So this is what I came up with.

Just a little embroidery (can we call it that ) and beadwork. Here is a closeup

When Pranav saw this he wanted to know for whom the hat is for. He tried it on his head but it was a bit small according to him. He thought about some of his cousins who are younger than him. But decided it would not fit them as well. But finally we found someone who can use this hat.

Crochet Can Jacket

I have almost three or four projects waiting to be given finishing touches. But have not touched them since last week. And yesterday instead of working on them, I ended up making this.
An empty oats can and some scarp yarn was used. Perfect for instant gratification. And DH wants me to make many more of these. So me happy with the result.

Oh My!!Iam so very happy and pleased today. I finally finished the Hexagon Throw I was working on. Yesssssssssss. Its done. And Iam so pleaaasssed with how it looks. Want to see it?? Here it is. Tah Dah...

I have been so inspired by Lucy of Attic24. Her blog is so colourful and cheerful and inspiring and what not. If you have not visited her blog yet, please do so. I want to make all the things that she has shown in her blog. This throw is one of them. It took me more than 4 months (with short breaks in between for other projects ) to finish it. But so worth it. All at home love it. Just randomly picked and used colours as I worked on it. I joined the hexagons in the end using single crochet. Gave a very simple edging.

Our Weekend

We are facing so many issues now. After feeling very low and sulking a lot the last week, we decided to forget everything for a while and go out and indulge in some retail therapy.

None of these cost much, but it felt so good. Bought some really good tea towels( I loved the prints ), some coffee mugs, a bear shaped measuring tape (for meeee), iron on patches (again for meeee)..

On Saturday we went to a dairy farm, where the little one had lots of fun. We had fun too.

So this weekend was a welcome break where we did not get much time to worry. Hope things will improve soon.

Peek- A-Boo

Here is a peek into something Iam working on these days. Actually started making these hexgons almost three months ago. But I had other projects going on. These days it is just this throw. I cannot wait to finish it. It might take atleast a week or more for that to happen. But couldn't wait to blog about it.

It has so many colours and is making me really happy. Iam sure it will really brighten up our living room when its done.

Go Green

What Iam going to blog about today has nothing to do with the "Go Green" campaign. But I do support it and feel all of us should do our bit to save the planet. I have two sewing projects to share today, and coincidentally both are green in colour. Hence the title.

First one is an apron. The fabric used was bought far back. Really loved the print and bought it. We needed a new apron so dug the fabic out from my small stash and made this apron. Iam very pleased with how it looks.

I have recycled Pranav's old jeans to make the pockets. Also tried a little Applique work (done by hand).

The second one is a project bag. I very badly needed one and loved a project bag made by a friend in Ravelry. So this bag was sewn with that bag in mind. Just kept cutting pieces and pinning them together till it formed the shape that I wanted and sew it. Have used the same fabric for the lining. And I love how the bag turned out.

I have sewn two buttons together.

There is a small pocket inside for keeping scissors, measuring tape etc..

I did not have any readymade interfacing to make the base strong. So this is what I made with scrap fabric and stitched it to the base below the lining.

Ok this is what I came home with after a recent trip to IKEA and another small fabric shop in Dubai..

And this is what Pranav bought. He doesn't know what to do with them. But its Thomas and Popeye. So he had to buy them. I think I will sew PJs for him( which I will have to learn first).

And this is what hubby dear bought me from his recent trip to Qatar. Three crochet books. He said they were on sale and he got them for almost half the price. Isn't he smart :)) ...

Finally finished lining the bag about which I had blogged in my very first post. Lining this took a lot of time. First I did hand sewing. But then I felt I should go for machine sewing. It does not look perfect, but Iam pretty happy. Here is a picture of the lining.

Hubby helped me to choose the fabric for the lining. He said this fabric has all the colours that I have used for my bag. And he is right.

Also made a crocheted scarf. It was a quick make and Iam very happy with how it has turned out. The yarn I used is a blend of wool and acrylic. Blocked it with the help of a friend in Ravelry. This scarf will be gifted to a cousin of my husband.

Have been thinking for a long time to share the details of some of the things I have made in the past, that is before I started blogging. And since they are few in number, I think I can fit them into 1 post. So here you go.
A scarf which is my first work in crochet. Iam really happy with the results. I love it and wear it all the time.

My first doily which turned out to be quite big (maybe because I used knitting cotton). But I really liked it.

A table runner which is adorning our dining table. This is again a crocheted piece and the pattern is by me. The main part is plain double crochet. Finalising on the edging part took a lot of time. But again happy with the result.

Now moving on to some knitted projects.
This scarf was made before I made any of the stuff mentioned above.

Made this cap for Pranav, but after a wash it has become all loose. Doesn't even fit my head. So planning to frog it and use the yarn for something else.

As I have confessed in one of my earlier posts, I was scared of the sewing machine. A lot of time in the past couple of weeks were spent in overcoming this fear. I have succeeded to a large extent and even managed to sew a crochet hook clutch for me..yippeeee..Iam pretty happy with the results.

Also made this pincushion.

Gifts for a little one

My friend’s ( my best best friend since class 4 ) little boy is now 4 months old. I wanted to send some gifts for the little one, including something handmade. These are the things that will be sent.
A bib, pattern here

A summer hat ( which might turn out to be a bit bigger for him), pattern here

And some stuff that I bought.

This is my first post and Iam totally confused where to start. Maybe I will get into the flow after a few posts. I have just started to knit and crochet . Teaching myself from online tutorials. And as if that is not enough I have also started to try sewing. I lined a bag that i knit recently. I did hand sewing. Here is a picture of the bag.

Want to learn to use the sewing machine. But the bobbin thread coming from under and overlapping with the main thread is not working and I cant figure out why. All rocket science as of now. I will post pictures of the lining work later.
